This hand-hewn stone courthouse crowns a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River. Completed in 1848 at a cost of $4,400, Thebes Courthouse is on the National Register of Historic Places and was recently restored. Before the Civil War, then lawyer John A. Logan argued cases in the courthouse. Abraham Lincoln even practiced law here when in his early days as a lawyer.
