The Great River Road - Our Regions

Eagle Watching

More than 3,000 wintering bald eagles converge along the byway from mid-November through mid-March. Eagles hunt for fish along the Mississippi River’s ice-free segments, making locks and dams favorite stops for them and picture spots for you. Improve your chances of seeing our national bird by attending an event or tour like Audubon Eagle Ice Festival, Bald Eagle Days in Rock Island, Bald Eagle Bus Tours from Galena, and Great River Eagle Days in Quincy.
