The National Great Rivers Museum and the Melvin Price Locks and Dam combine a state of the art museum and one of the largest locks on the Mississippi River. In the museum, discover the story of life on the Mississippi. See how the flowing waters shaped our culture, history, economy, and ecology. Take a tour of the locks and dam, see the view of Alton from 80-feet above the water and watch barge traffic lock through, carrying soybeans, grain, coal and more the length of the river. The locks are a great place to view bald eagles on the river from November to mid-March.
