
The largest of the Rock Island County forest preserves, Loud Thunder covers 1,480 acres including Lake George, a 167-acre manmade lake. Boat rentals are available, including kayaks, small pontoons, 16’ jon boats, and party barges. The lake also offers fishing for bluegill, largemouth bass, crappie, channel cat, bullhead cat, and muskellunge. The park has 52 primitive campsites, 26 RV sites with water and electric, and 35 sites with full hookups. More than 14 miles of hiking and multiuse trails are available, including 6 miles of trails for equestrian use with a horse corral campground. The trails are available for cross country skiing and snow shoeing during winter. There is a boat ramp which offers access to the Mississippi River and additional fishing opportunities. Archery hunting for deer is available during season.
