Built in 1891 as a memorial to the wife of John E. Hayner, the Hayner Memorial Library was once the only free library in the country. Today it houses the Hayner Genealogy & Local History Library. In addition to genealogy and local history resources it houses periodically changing museum displays. Past and current displays have covered Abraham Lincoln, local railroads, steam boats, the Civil War, Elijah P. Lovejoy and more.
