ILLINOISouth Tourism

The fort was built by the French in 1759 and was used to protect the village of Kaskaskia, the region's main commercial center at the time. All that remains today are fascinating earthworks outlining what was once the fort’s perimeter. The site also has a campground and a scenic overlook of the Mississippi River and Kaskaskia Island.
